Worldwide, Soroptimist has almost 95,000 members in more than 3000 clubs in 120 countries and has been an organization for over 80 years. Our club is part of the Sierra Pacific Region and we have over 25 members. We like to say that we are small but mighty!! Our members represent a wide array of professions, ages, cultures and ethnic groups. We focus on northern San Mateo County, including the local communities of South San Francisco, Daly City, Brisbane, Pacifica, Millbrae and San Bruno, and have provided service to these communities for over 42 years.
Our club raises money, discusses issues and disburses money to programs and causes that help to improve the lives of women and girls. And, we have FUN. Soroptimist means "best for women" and that's what we strive to be—an organization of women at their best helping other women to be their best. As a volunteer organization of business and professional women, we feel uniquely qualified to help women and girls live their dreams.
It's true that both men and women live in poverty, face discrimination and must overcome obstacles. But throughout history—in every country in the world—women and girls face additional obstacles and discrimination solely because of their gender.
